Books

Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic
by Peter H. R. Green, M.D., and Rory Jones

A comprehensive layman's guide to the medical issues surrounding celiac disease, written by one of the leading celiac doctors in the U.S. This is a great book to have if you've been recently diagnosed, or if you need to explain celiac disease to your family and friends. Highly recommended.

Eating Out

Triumph Dining Cards

Use these laminated cards to help communicate the gluten-free diet to restaurant personnel. Targeted per cuisine type, these cards caution against the use of various common ingredients that contain gluten, and explain how to avoid cross-contamination.

Multi-lingual, and available for American, Chinese, French, Greek, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Thai, and Vietnamese cuisines.

Triumph also publishes a series of gluten-free restaurant and grocery guides.

Celiac Care Centers

Many cities now have celiac care centers affiliated with major hospitals. I can't list them all here, but if you go to your favorite search site and enter "celiac care center" and the name of the closest city to you, you'll probably find a celiac-centric medical group nearby. They're a good bet for diagnosis and ongoing care, since "celiac care center" generally translates to "won't have to micromanage your own care."
